All Four Guardians of the Galaxy Films, Ranked

Come and get your love...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is officially in theaters! I hope all of you guys got a chance to see it this weekend or are still planning on seeing it today. I'm going to cover Marvel's misfits over the next few days, starting here. The Guardians franchise is one of the most unique and popular franchises in the MCU, and there are some differing opinions here. I think all of these movies (and TV specials) are good. But I definitely like some more than others. Let's dive in.

4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians 2 is decent. It definitely is not great, but it's a fun continuation of these characters. The biggest problem with it is that it doesn't have the freshness of the original. You can feel James Gunn forcing the humor in a little bit more. The story is kind of a mess. But it's still a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, so it's still funny and still has heart. The characters are still entertaining. The action is fun. It's easily the weakest of the four, but it is still a good movie.

3. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

It's hard to judge The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special because it isn't a movie. It's a very small, short story. There isn't a gigantic arc. This isn't must-watch MCU content. But it's such a fun little piece of the MCU that I really, really enjoy. Mantis and Drax are a great duo, and watching them try to steal Kevin Bacon as a Christmas present for Star-Lord is just a wholesomely weird story that has Guardians written all over it. It's just a heart-warming forty minutes that is hard not to have fun with.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is still one of the most fun and unique entries in the MCU. Nobody knew anything about these characters when this movie came out. This movie came out two years after The Avengers. It followed up Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This was an enormous risk, but it absolutely paid off, because we got some of the best characters in the MCU from it. The dynamic between this weird band of misfits is so fun. The movie is so funny, but it has this incredible sense of heart that you can't get in even the best MCU movies. I don't love this movie as much as everyone else. I think it's really good, but I've never quite loved it. But it's a super solid movie and a great expansion of the MCU.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is everything I wanted from a conclusion to this trilogy. It's just as funny as the other movies and The Holiday Special, but it's also very dark and emotional. It balances those two sides extremely well to create an incredibly satisfying swan song for the Guardians. The characters themselves are given some of the best development and arcs in any MCU movie. Every one of our Guardians gets a moment to shine. Rocket Raccoon is the standout here with his devastating backstory, but Star-Lord, Nebula, Drax, and Mantis are all given so much to do. I absolutely adored this movie, and I hope it points to a brighter future for the MCU.
