Yeah...
John Wick: Chapter 4 is officially in theaters! I hope you guys had fun with it. I don't love the John Wick franchise. The action is cool and I do love Keanu Reeves, but to me, the movies aren't really that good. I enjoy a few of them, but overall, I'm not really a fan of this franchise. I don't really know what the normal ranking is, but mine definitely might be controversial, because my opinions on these movies are not shared by most people. Anyways, here's my ranking of all four John Wick movies.
4. John Wick: Chapter 4
I really didn't like John Wick: Chapter 4. It was way, way, way too long, partly because the extra runtime was just filled out with John Wick shooting more bullets and throwing more punches. I don't like some of the decisions that they made with the characters and I really, really hate the ending. I found this movie to just be exhausting. It lost all of the fun of the other John Wick movies because it just completely overdid the action.
3. John Wick
I don't like the first John Wick. It isn't terrible, but it's certainly not good. The premise of an ex-hitman going bananas because someone killed his dog is funny, but it shouldn't be taken seriously. This movie takes itself entirely seriously, and, while I like the world-building involving the Continental and the High Table, I just don't find this movie compelling or interesting. The action is cool, but there's nothing else here that I really enjoy all that much.
2. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum
Parabellum is decent. It isn't great by any means, but it's entertaining. It feels like a bit of a prototype with Chapter 4 for how much action it has. The thing that makes it better is that it has a much more digestible runtime and a story that allows the action to happen. I think they could've done more with the High Table chasing after John, but I'm okay with what they did. Sure, it feels generic at times and there's nothing super memorable here, but I like this movie.
1. John Wick: Chapter 2
John Wick: Chapter 2 is, by far, the best film in the franchise. It has the best action. It has the coolest set pieces. It has the best world-building. This is where we're truly exposed to this world of assassins with the blood mark and the High Table and the Continental. Santino D'Antonio is a cool villain. He's such a jerk while also being a very powerful foe. I think the ending of this movie is awesome. I really, really dig this film. There are problems, sure, but it's easily the most fun and the coolest film in the John Wick franchise.
