Stranger Things 5: Who is the 'Sorcerer'?

Will the Wise?

ree

The mid-season and volume one finale, Sorcerer, is one of the most exciting episodes of Stranger Things 5. It is the longest of the first volume as well as having had, according to the Duffer brothers, the "most logistically insane shoot of [their] lives." This episode is going to be huge. So the question remains: who is the titular sorcerer? Well, here are five of my possible answers below.

5. Dustin Henderson

A possible D&D nickname for everyone's favorite nerd
ree

Like Stranger Things episodes often are, "Sorcerer" seems like it could be some sort of Dungeons & Dragons-related codename. Dustin loves to coin these terms (he definitely named the Mind Flayer and I think he named Vecna as well), so it's possible that he is the sorcerer. I don't think this would have much significance beyond just being some sort of codename during a plan they are performing, but who knows? Maybe this hints at Dustin's ultimate fate (but hopefully not because no one wants him to die).

4. Mike Wheeler

A possible D&D nickname for everyone's least favorite nerd
ree

We know that Mike will be a bigger focus this season, so I'm wondering if maybe he is the sorcerer and the ultimate sacrifice made at the end of this episode. Imagine if they deem Mike the sorcerer (similar to how they would deem Dustin it if it was him) and then he was the big death halfway through the season. What if they brought Vecna back by killing Mike? That would be nuts. So I think he could be the sorcerer and I also think he could definitely, definitely die.

3. Eleven

This episode is likely to center around her
ree

It feels like the term "sorcerer" seems to imply a person with powers, so that kind of narrows it down to three people. The first of those three is obviously Eleven. I expect this episode to involve the big showdown at the military base where Vecna returns and the Demogorgons start going nuts on all of the soldiers quarantining Hawkins, so Eleven would obviously be a big part of that. It's possible that this could be some sort of codename or reference that the military uses to discuss her, because, at the end of the day, Eleven kind of seems like a sorcerer. Again, I don't really know what this could be implying, but it seems like it's probably something big.

2. Vecna

This episode is also likely to be his return
ree

I expect that Vecna will not be in much of volume one. I think we will see him a bunch in flashbacks to season one, but present Vecna is going to probably be MIA for a lot of the first few episodes. If that is the case, however, he will definitely make his big return in this episode. The mid-season finale, the end of volume one is the perfect place to have this horrific return for the show's big bad. I don't know exactly what it would mean if he was the sorcerer, but it is definitely, definitely possible.

1. Will Byers

Maybe Will the Wise will reveal his true powers
ree

To be honest, I don't really know what the term "sorcerer" signifies in the context of anyone else...except for Will. There have long been theories that Will has powers that he does not realize because of his connection to the Upside Down. I think this episode is likely to reveal those powers and unveil him as the sorcerer. If he unlocks his true potential and his powers, however, I feel like that could be through Vecna, meaning it'd be a bad thing. Maybe he's Vecna's sorcerer. He was the spy. Now he could be the sorcerer. I just don't think this is going to go very well for him in any way shape or form.
